Where the numbers come from

Nothing on this site is estimated or scraped. Each figure is a published statistic with a date.

How current the numbers are

Every figure carries the date of its official release. Rents, home values, listing prices and unemployment are monthly; the cost-of-living index and population are annual; gas prices are weekly. We update as each source publishes.

Data current as of 2026-10-26.

Reading the numbers

Regional Price Parities compare price levels across places for one year (US = 100). They are not a change over time.

Zillow ZORI/ZHVI are smoothed, seasonally adjusted “typical” values for the middle of the market, not medians of what sold.

Gas is the EIA average for the region (East Coast, Midwest, Gulf Coast, Rocky Mountain, West Coast), the finest geography published weekly.

Metro means the Census metropolitan statistical area, which is larger than the city itself.
